| COMMERCIAL MARKETS Driveways/Walks/Parking Areas Prevent driveways and walks from frost damage. Install perforated tubing in gravel beneath the flagstone, concrete or other paving material. Drain to a convenient run-off area. Driveway Culverts To carry water beneath the driveway, use 10", 12", 15", 18", or 24" non-perforated tubing. Crushed stone, gravel (aggregate size not to exceed one inch) or compacted soil backfill should be used as bedding material around the culvert. Surface Drainage can be installed where lawns collect rainwater of run-off. Install perforated tubing at the low point and use non-perforated tubing to carry water to a storm sewer or collection area. Interceptor Drains If the building is on a slope, perforated tubing installed as a curtain drain will intercept the water before it reaches the foundation or creates unsightly wet areas around the building. Use perforated tubing in ditches on the slope parallel to the building and encase in a gravel bedding to intercept the excess water. At the end of the perforated line, connect to non-perforated tubing to carry water to a run-off area. Channel Drainage allows increased surgace drainage area and eliminates the need for sloping of the surrounding area to one central point. Installation is simplified for paved material areas such as brick, concrete or asphalt. Recreation Areas Use perforated tubing installed in a gravel envelope to pick up water and carry it to a catch basin or other disposal area. In heavy clay soils, several lines of perforated tubing may be needed to speed drainage. |
